After respawning like that I got the "Synbiote" status which redirects to a 404 wiki page

+ this issue persists after death, as when I exploded myself I still only have the Synbiotic respawn option.

As the name suggests - I don't know what it is but I'd changed nothing in my char and I'd always used Hellspawn.

It took some more attacks from other people, though:

Usually relaxed. People bring multiple alts to the Mansion, for example, as long as they don't directly interact with each other you'll be fine.

Yes, that's not a bad idea.

I like that suggestion, I think more variety is always good.
