Gameplay: Pets should be able to contribute to boss fights

I understand why the current system is in place. Obviously it's no fun if an LS or lich rolls up to a boss and schmoes it before anyone else can do anything.
I think that the current system is nonetheless a step too far. I have a WM and a Lich, presently. Nothing is more frustrating than setting up a horde of tentacles or bone guardians on a contested tile only to have them die to wandering minibosses before they even touch another player. (That's actually part of why I refunded Tentacles, but that's another discussion.) I don't feel like I should have to go mow the lawn ahead of what I actually want to do, either.
Is there something less severe than "completely ignoring a boss" that can be implemented? Maybe soaking pet damage or even ignoring every other attack? Would love it if so!
