Give a notice in the message pane when someone writes in there.

If I had a wishlist for how the faction communication features worked, it would be the Board tab but says "faction" and it has the chatbox there along with the "pinned message" of the faction board. Some sort of notification would be good as well, maybe only once every 4 hours so you are getting spammed maximum 6x a day if people are actually being chatty there. Maybe like the last 3 announcements as well

Alternative idea, although crazy and ambitious to implement: create a phpBB mod that automatically creates a forum group and hidden forum for each existing faction and automatically synchronizes group membership with faction membership. This would of course require reading official phpBB documentation and learning how phpBB modding works, and these is also that tiny little pesky problem that forum posts are signed by player names instead of character names, which could be quite confusing in this case - although perhaps phpBB gives some way to hack that and override author name when posting...
