Gameplay: Limited actions while mildly encumbered

Post by oath2order »

I feel like this has to have been suggested before.

But when I am overencumbered, please let me use items in my inventory as opposed to the only option being to drop things.
old-school member been here since like September 2014, I finally got my original start date.

personally i think one weight bricking your character is atrocious design (particularly on defilers) and would rather a system where you could go over your inv cap with penalties (particularly to mobility/defense) but that's just me

Now that we have the option to pick up things that were dropped instead of them instantly disappearing, I find this less of an issue. Drop an item, use or swap around as necessary, then pick up dropped item if desired.

However, the idea of having a +1 to +5 weight over your carry limit where you can do a limited number of non-combat / non-movement actions (read a book, perhaps, or write a message) or actions with penalties (1/2 movement? negatives to attack?) is a cool idea though.

+1

+1 for basic actions like consuming and reloading.

Overall Id prefer to see being encumbered give massive penalties to movement (4ap?), attack (-30%?) and limit most complex abilities (alchemy, infuse, crafting etc) rather than a flat stop till you drop.

Sunset Shimmer attacked you with a Frozen Gauntlet and hit for 62 points of holy damage. She was hiding! This attack was charged with righteous wrath! Their body strained with holy resolve as they added physical power to this attack! (2021-11-22)

Renamed thread, probably Promote ye

I’d see this as like if you are <10 overweight you can use inventory freely, but probably not move. Maybe attack is fine, fumbling inventory when an active shows up sucks.

I know a few of the spells/skills that increase inventory temporarily can be used while overweight now, I’d have to think of any items that would be problematic to use but none off the top of my head
